Eva Kovač | Curator BLOCKFREI Collective, Artistic Direction DAS WEISSE HAUS

Eva Kovač is an art historian and curator based in Vienna. Since January 2024, she has been part of the leadership of DAS WEISSE HAUS—a self-organized art institution and association in Vienna—alongside her colleagues from BLOCKFREI Collective, Nevena Janković and Jana Dolečki. In this context, Kovač's work focuses on shaping the artistic direction and curatorial programming of DAS WEISSE HAUS as a developing platform and experimental site for exhibiting contemporary art.

Kovač holds degrees in art history from the University of Ljubljana and the University of Vienna, where her master’s thesis, Performing Defiance, examined approaches to language and nationalism in post-Yugoslav contemporary art. Her research focuses on performance, the interplay of tradition and technology, the financialization of art, and critical reflections on the concept of success. She has served on various juries and is currently an external curator for the QMA Artist Collective 2025 program.

Recent exhibitions include: Drifting Feast (co-curated with Shang-Lin Wu, 2025); Fed Up Futures: Miao Fangping and Jelisaveta Rapaić; the cook is burned out, but the food is great (co-curated with Asija Ismailovski), and Leap Year (curated by BLOCKFREI Collective)—all at DAS WEISSE HAUS (2024)—as well as Craving Stability: Bobbi Meier and Alina Sokolova (co-curated with Vida Sačić) at Galerija Zlati Ajngel, Varaždin (2023).
